Closet Clean out Challenge

Writer's picture: Ashley DillonAshley Dillon

We all have at least one closet that’s in shambles.  Maybe it’s a bedroom closet, a storage closet or your coat closet.  But it’s over stuffed with junk, the shelving is wonky or dated, or it just needs organization (maybe all three?)

That’s why I’m introducing my closet cleanout challenge!  We will all work together to get our closets in order!  I’ll be giving my entryway closet a much needed cleanout and makeover.  I challenge you to pick a closet, and do the same!  Here are the steps:

  1. Pick the level of transformation you can commit to:

  • Level 1: Closet clean out

  • Level 2: Facelift with a new look (maybe add shelf covers for wire shelving or paint; no demo required

  • Level 3: Full demo and renovation!

  1. Clean out the closet and donate/sell and just get rid of anything you don’t need anymore.  I know this can be hard for some, but I challenge you to let go of things you haven’t used in at the MOST three years.

  2. Pick out a paint color, wallpaper or any other wall treatment for the inside of the closet.  And give it a new look!

  3. Install new shelving and/or cabinetry.  I’ll be using John Louis closet shelving.

  4. Buy any organizers you need (baskets, boxes, etc).

  5. The fun part: put everything back in a neat organized manner and enjoy your new space!

Here’s a look at my design board. I think they’re so important when you’re designing any space.

This can feel overwhelming if you’ve never done something like this before, but I challenge you to give it a try and let’s transform one space at a time together!
