That Frame TV

Writer's picture: Ashley DillonAshley Dillon

As most of you know, I am a HUGE fan of the Samsung Frame TV. All the TVs in my house are frames, and design wise, it makes a huge difference. I always love seeing people’s reactions when they realize the art on the wall is actually a TV.

The last such reaction came from my son’s friend, when Henry turned on the TV his friend’s mouth dropped and said “I thought that was just a picture!” It was beyond adorable.

One of the downfalls of the Frame (and I hesitate to even call it a downfall, it’s more of a slight inconvenience) is that when you purchase the TV, there is a black bezel around it, but it doesn’t really give off that framed art look unless you purchase the colored bezels that are sold separately. Samsung makes bezels in an array of colors so you can pick whatever you like, I’ve seen white, black, brown, teak (a light wood), beige, pink, and even green. I have the teak in my basement. They cost anywhere from $75 - $150+ depending on the size you need for your TV.

I knew however that I wanted something a bit more custom for the other TVs in my house. A lot of picture frames are metallic, and Samsung doesn’t offer metallic finishes. There are other frame bezels available made of wood that are much more substantial and ornate, but those go for a pretty penny ($500 and up)

As for the other four TVs in my home, I decided to go a different route. One of my favorite places to look for deals is in Amazon, in the slightly used category of whatever you’re looking to purchase. For example, when I look at the 55” black bezel on Amazon right now, the regular price is $116.67. That’s for the black version that won’t even change the look from how the TV looks out of the box.

If you scroll down, you’ll see there’s another available that’s “like new” for $28.56. What a steal! You can even see other sellers and their lower prices available as well.

With free shipping and returns. But you’re still stuck with a black bezel. Well that’s when the craftiness comes into a play. I have a HUGE selection of spray paint and rub n buff in my garage. I have custom colored three out of the four bezels on my TVs right now.

In my living room I used European gold rub n buff to give is a brassy finish.

In my bedroom I spray painted satin nickel for a beautiful silver toned frame.

And finally in the guest room I used gold spray paint to complement the other finishes in the room.

All of these bezels were purchased for less than $30, and they are completely unique to me and my home. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
