Guest Room Design Board

Writer's picture: Ashley DillonAshley Dillon

Last night I was trying to decide which curtains and which rug would look best in my guest room. In doing so, I decided to take the time to create a design board so I could better visualize my options. The color of the room is Sherwin Williams Oyster Bay. Two days ago I painted the interior doors a semi gloss finish to match the walls. I’ll also be painting the window trim as well. The things I’ll need to change are:

  • Curtains

  • Rug

  • Lamp

  • Media console

  • Bed (already done, got a new one last week)

  • Add sconces

  • Décor (vases, pictures, etc)

  • Art

  • Hardware (changing from bronze to brass)

  • Blinds

Here are my design board options:

This one is the most neutral and probably the “safest” option out of the four. I like how the curtains and rug are soft.

This one changes out the rug, but I’m not sure if the bolder rug is the best option with these curtains.

This is the boldest option overall. I love how the rug and curtains play off one another, but I’m not sure if it would be overpowering, it’s a small room.

Finally, this is probably the options I like the least. The curtains don’t really match the rug and there doesn’t seem to be any flow.

As you can tell, I’m leaning toward either option 1 or option 2. Time will tell which one I end up choosing. Stay tuned!
